Hi Scotty,
Thank you for all you do for us! We had to give up our 2005 xterra after being rear ended and are looking for a replacement. We want something that sits a little higher and also has a flat floor for easy in and out (for a couple of old folks). Something around 2018 or so that will be our daily driver. My mechanic suggested a Honda Pilot.
Love your youtube channel.
Thank you again,
Miss My Xterra
Honda is experiencing issues with their 9 speed automatic transmission so I’d avoid those.
I think your best option would be a Mazda CX-5, they had really good 2.0L/2.5L engines and great 6 speed conventional automatic transmissions.
Or, hear me out, maybe just get a 2015 Xterra? If you’ve enjoyed yours that much, why change? You can get a much newer one, likely relatively cheap and with low miles if you’re patient and/or willing to drive a little ways. If not for the accident, would you have replaced yours? If not, sounds like you were happy, even with an older car. No reason to buy super new for the sake of buying super new. Just a thought.
Full disclosure, I bought a 2010 for my son and it runs like a top. It’s a great vehicle. I’ve actually been driving it to work this week just for a change (25 miles each way, highway).
What are all your options, in your area?
the 4runner is a good replacement and they can run forever. Don't buy the Pilot, the first-gen ZF 9 speed transmission can be jerky. I did hear that the ZF 9 speed is good in the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder since Nissan implemented the 2nd gen 9 spd Zf tranny and tuned it in a way to make it feel smooth and refined.
