Hey Scotty, I've been looking at this scanner at Harbor Freight with the coupons available it makes it very attractive, since I understand it is just a re-badged Innova 5610. Even the manual has Innova referenced in it. Do you have any insight if this is true and if it is, do they have the same functionality? Worried that some how they may water down the harbor freight version. Thanks!!
I have one and I love it. I use it 95% percent of the time and never has it failed me or come up short. If you get it you won't be disappointed.
It's also extremely easy to update.
Good the have someone here that has personal experience with this unit, I can only go by HF's general reputation with electronics. Did it come with their standard 90-day warranty or does that item carry a longer one? Can you get updates and support for it?
You download the updater off harbor freights website. Once you do that it will install the the software program to computer. Just follow the prompt on screen. When at the main page it will ask you if you want to auto update/install click yes. To update from that point on you simple just hook up scanner to computer and it will automatically install new version if available. Unfortunately it's only 90 days. They have a tech support number and website. It has fix assist and repair solutions 2 I agree hf electrical stuff is not good but there scanners that cost more then 100 are actually pretty good. I bought 4 from and still have them. One of them is 9 years old and still works like new. The thing I like the most about this is the misfire counters, it also can do around 30 different actuators..I'm able to use it for German cars. For the money I think it's well worth it. The things it can do really shocked me. It works more like a 800 dollars scanner not a 300. I paid 225 for mine
Good to know, thanks!
can it individually test/pulse fuel injectors?
I'm not to sure. I know it does a injector kill test. I think It has a injector balance test. That might only be for Ford and Chrysler. I don't have the scanner at the moment so I cannot go and check for you.
Harbor Freight can be OK for hand tools but they have a terrible reputation when it comes to electronics. Standard warranty is only 90 days. They will "recommend" that you buy an extended warranty which essentially is pre-paying the wholesale price of a replacement. Harbor Freight provides no support and no service beyond exchanges.
I don't know if it's really a rebadged Innova 5610, but even if so there may be firmware differences and more importantly Innova may not provide any support or updates for it.
I'd be wary of it.
I have one of their older brands (Cen-Tech)
Never let me down
I still don't trust harbour Freight for anything else really. I've broken or destroyed 75% off tool and other electronics I purchased. Worst case was 5 coil testers in 1 day. They kept breaking and coming apart. Im surprised they kept exchanging them . Finally I said screw it took a plug tester with adjust gap and coil tester and merged them together and created a dual unit.
