| Answer to: 2011 Crown Victoria or 2004 IS 300 SportCross as a first car | 5Relevance | 6 days ago | MountainManJoe | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Per posting instructions, please provide miles on both and if they are private/dealer sale. That being said, the Lexus is older than you are. The biggest factor now is mechanical condition and how well the cars were taken care of. | |||||

| I am currently 21 years old and a car enthusiast living in Southwestern Pennsylvania and currently looking to get my first car. I’m divided between two options: a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria or a 2004 Lexus IS 300 SportCross. Which one would better? Thank you! | |||||

| You need a good mechanic to inspect the car before purchase to determine whether it is indeed in "nice shape". Buying a used car without so much as scanning for problems is foolhardy and asking for trouble. | |||||

| Hi, my son saved up some money and is wanting to a 2015 Mazda 3 with 98,000 miles on it from a private individual. It is his first car. We went and looked at the car. Nice shape. Engine had no strange noises, struts seemed fine. Drove nicely. Automatic transmission shifted smooth. I don't own an OBD II scanner so wasn't able to scan the car. Wanted your thoughts about buying the car. Love your YouTube channel. Many thanks! A fan in Dallas, Texas. | |||||
| Answer to: Why does my car only shift from first at 5k RPM? | 5Relevance | 5 months ago | Chuck Tobias | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| It sounds like your transmission is worn out (clutches burning). You did not mention mileage but it is really no surprise after 22 years. You could try some snake oil like Lucas "Transmission Fix". It would not actually "fix" anything of course but some have reported temporary relief with that kind of product. It might give you a little more time to shop for another car. | |||||

| Well Those Suzuki automatic transmissions are known to be terrible as they age. One of the big reasons they stopped selling Suzuki cars in the United States as most people drive automatics. And it obviously has a problem in the side the transmission. But I've never even met any transmission guys here in the United States who would even work on the things. They can't get parts. They're extremely complex to rebuild. You would have to go to a Suzuki transmission expert if you could even find one and then you'll probably find us more money than the cars worth trying to rebuild it from my experience | |||||

| You're talking about buying vehicles that are decades old. No matter what sites like carcomplaints.com say about the reliability of that model the condition of the one you are looking at is the most important thing. Also when starting out with something that old it may well only going to have a few more years left in it before expensive repairs are needed. Buying a car sight unseen is extremely risky. If you do not have the knowledge to thoroughly inspect a used vehicle yourself it is imperative that you have a good mechanic so so before purchase. Afterwards is too late. | |||||

| Hi everyone. I'm a lady in her 60s looking for a good: 1998-2003 Toyota Sienna. I currently own a 2000 Toyota Echo ( INZ-FE, 1.5L). I am NOT a mechanic, but I frequently check out Scotty's You tube videos and also the car care Nut videos. I live in a small Midwest city with very few good options as far as good used cars that are not "mechanics specials". My dad always taught me to have a used car inspected before buying. Well, pretty much every Sienna I've found on Facebook Marketplace gets sold as soon as I start asking questions like: When was the timing belt/water pump last changed, Does it have a clear title and if not, why, etc. etc. I'm trying to do my due diligence, but it seems that people are buying these Sienna's sight unseen. I've expanded my search to 500 miles out, and it just happened again today to a low mileage good looking 2003 Sienna. I guess what I'm asking is how in the world can an average person, without mechanical/auto training or any relatives with mechanical/auto training find a good car if people are willing to buy a car sight unseen and take the risk? I buy older Toyota's because I can't afford the newer ones. Simplicity and reliability are what I look for. Where I live, there are dirt/gravel roads, lots of severe weather and homicidal semi truckers on the highway, so I care most about what's on the inside. Not really concerned about what it looks like, but definitely would not buy a rust bucket either. I've been looking every day on Craigslist and FB Marketplace for about 6 months. I think that, unless you're a good mechanic, which most of us are not, buying a car without having it inspected by a reputable mechanic is like buying a lottery ticket. I always go to carcomplaints.com to check each make, model and year for complaints and history. That's why I like the 1998-2003 Sienna's. I have always dreamed about owning a van, and the 1998-2003 Sienna's seem to have the least mechanical problems according to carcomplaints.com. Would anyone know if 1998-2003 year Sienna's have an interference or non interference engine? Anyway, I would appreciate any suggestions this community might have about how to find a good older Sienna when you're not a mechanic and how to compete with people, who seem to buy sight unseen. Thanks P.S. I'm only guessing that people are buying the Sienna's I'm interested in sight unseen. It's the only logical explanation I can come up with when a Sienna that interests me on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace is available one day and then sold the next. | |||||

| If you enjoy dealing with serious and very expensive engine problems it could be just the thing for you. (To be fair, if it was scrupulously maintained and mileage (which you failed to mention) is not too high they can sometimes be OK, but that's going to be very tough to determine on a vehicle that's pushing 20 years old.) | |||||

| Hey what do you think about the brand new brz as a first car in a automatic transmission? I am thinking about getting first automatic but since I can't find one new and I prefer brand new because of risks associated of used sports cars. Afterwards I will trade in mines in for a manual one. What do you think? If I cannot find a automatic brz should I special order? | |||||
| Answer to: 2018 Audi SQ5: Should i choose this as my first car used? | 5Relevance | 1 year ago | Chuck Tobias | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| "Triple B Autos" would be a used car dealer rather than a private party. That's a big red flag to start with. Most dealers would rip off their own grandmothers. As far as the SQ5 itself, it would make a fine first car if you enjoy the prospect of the vehicle being constantly in the shop and for you to be frequently shelling out thousands of dollars for repairs. However, if you want something reliable that won't cost a fortune to keep on the road it's one of the worst choices you could possibly make. | |||||
