| It's snake oil that not only may not work it may cause other problems. If it works at all it would be temporary, it will not actually fix anything. If you intend to keep the truck long term the leak should be properly repaired. | |||||
| Answer to: Safety? What Safety? | 15Relevance | 3 years ago | Dan | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I really though you're gonna answer with solid info but this all seems wrong. They are not, neither is a "company". One is an EU government agency, the other is a nonprofit organization. Nope. This is wrong. The worst are: Mitsubishi Mirage G4 - 205Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback - 183Dodge Challenger 2WD - 154 Source: See note further on expired test results. Nope. This is wrong. The Kia Optima has got a deathrate of 80, which is the same as the exact same as Chevrolet Impala and like 2 more than a Honda Civic hatchback. And this car has got 89% in the 2015 Euroncap test which does demonstrate that it's not horrible, but not good. Source: Nope. This is wrong too. The Camry has got a deathrate of 48, it's factually on the safer side. Source: Nope. This is wrong too. Looking at US statistics the worst car wasn't the Aveo it was the 3rd worst was the 2011 Hyundai Accent. Source: The Hyundai Accent had HORRIBLE performance on the IIHS. You see how these are linked? It's almost as if the link has been scientifically verified (cause it was). Now, overall the Aveo is arguably a dangerous car with a score of 99 deaths, YET, it is significantly lower than the 115 average for the 4 door mini car category in 2011! The 2011 EuroNCAP test checks how well the car performs in SV scenarios, and the Aveo performed well in that aspect! So now that we are clear on the fact the Aveo performs decently, We also should that the tests are constantly evolving, a 5 star car from 2013 (89%) was retested in 2023 according to the new 2023 requirements and it has scored 0 stars (43%) - So needless to say a 5 star rating in 2011 is nothing by modern car standards - this is why the safety ratings EXPIRE, and a 5 star score that's expired is worthless. 2011 deadliest cars .... (...) #7 - Chevrolet Malibu ... 5 stars out of 5 for safety Nope. This is wrong too. The 2011 Malibu had 41 deaths per (...), which makes it pretty safe. Source: I think you need to go over your data and see again. Your statements have been verified and DISPROVEN scientifically many times. "Good correlation was found between Euro NCAP test results and real-world injury outcomes. The largest difference in injury risk between 2- and 5-star rated cars in Euro NCAP was found for risk of fatality, confirming that car manufacturers have focused their safety performance on serious crash outcomes" And as far as the IIHS test categories, the side category has been also was scientifically verified. "Because performance in measures collected in the IIHS side crash test are strongly associated with real-world driver death risk, one of the ways the crash test program could continue to encourage crashworthiness improvements is by requiring stronger performance on these measures." I'm glad we cleared this up and shown how test results do DIRECTLY correlate with safety. | |||||
| Blue coolant temperature light | 15Relevance | 3 years ago | Ethan0815 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Good morning Scotty, I have a 2024 Honda HR-V EX-L 2WD with only 416 miles. Every time I start the car first thing in the morning the blue coolant temperature light comes on for a minute then goes away. Is this normal ? I looked under the hood and coolant level is still full. It only happens on cold startups, once warmed up it doesn't come on. Thanks. | |||||
| Thoughts on 2010 Hyundai Accent Blue | 15Relevance | 3 years ago | carmaneree | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Dear Scotty, For my first vehicle, I purchased a 2010 Hyundai Accent blue. It has about 150K miles on it. It has the tall gear ratios and 5 speed transmission. It has crank windows, no power locks, and not a whole lot else. I'm planning on doing the timing belt and water pump soon, along with other incidentals and belts. It's mostly clean underneath, and doesn't burn oil. It runs smoothly and drives straight. I paid 3500. Besides the commonplace coil issue, what else should I look out for on the car? I've heard most people saying that the older Accents were ... | |||||
| Answer to: 3 seconds of blue smoke on cold starts. | 15Relevance | 3 years ago | Chuck Tobias | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Are you losing a significant amount of oil between changes? It's probably worth changing the PCV valve to see if that makes a difference, especially if it's original. blue smoke is generally due to burning oil either due to bad turbo seals, bad valve stem seals, or worn piston rings. There is no magical elixir you can pour into the engine that will fix worn parts and those EcoBoost engines are not known for longevity. If the problem happens to be due to carbon buildup causing stuck piston rings the ATS Carbon Clean treatment Scotty has featured may help. | |||||

| 1.5 seconds after cold-starting my 2013 Ford Fusion that's equipped with a 1.6L EcoBoost (ugh)/175,233 miles (not ugh), about 3 seconds worth of blue-tinted smoke comes out of the tailpipe. What is your guess on why this occurs? Is there a substance I can pour in the crankshaft that could potentially solve this issue? | |||||
| Who currently makes a driver's seat handle for the 2000 Ford Contour Sport? | 15Relevance | 1 year ago | Sapporo Boy | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| My father purchased a 2000 Ford Contour Sport last September, and it was missing a driver's seat handle when he bought it. It's his understanding that Ford doesn't make the handle in question anymore. So far, he has been unable to purchase a proper replacement. Is there a company that makes a driver's seat handle comparable to the one that's missing from the Ford Contour in question? For the record, the car currently has an automatic transmission as well as 106,235 miles on the odometer. The relevant photos show stuff that the door hand is supposed to go over. | |||||

| The most direct way to check for engine sludge is to remove the valve cover and look. This is easy on most inline 4-cylinder engines but a pain on Subaru boxer engines. You would need to find a good independent mechanic in your area to do a thorough diagnosis. Dealers and chain shops should be avoided. There are tips for finding a good mechanic in the site FAQ. I personally am not a professional mechanic and only work on my own vehicles and, occasionally, family and friends' cars. Scotty is currently in Portsmouth, Rhode Island so if you are within reasonable driving distance you can contact him to make an appointment. (Instructions are in the aforementioned FAQ.) Alternatively, Scotty will be returning to Clarksville Tennessee late in July if you are near that location. | |||||
| 5.7 Hemi V8 puff of blue smoke out of tailpipe on cold start | 15Relevance | 2 years ago | kcarguy | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hey Scotty, I have a 2019 RAM 1500 Classic with the 5.7L Hemi V8 with 68,000 Miles. It has recently gotten very cold outside and I noticed upon cold start there was a puff of blue smoke out of the tailpipe for a second or so when the truck first started then went away. This has never happened before I was thinking this is possibly a sign on the piston rings starting to wear. What are your thoughts/suggestions on what could be causing this? Thanks. Kevin | |||||
