Good morning Scotty,
I have a 2024 Honda HR-V EX-L 2WD with only 416 miles. Every time I start the car first thing in the morning the blue coolant temperature light comes on for a minute then goes away. Is this normal ? I looked under the hood and coolant level is still full. It only happens on cold startups, once warmed up it doesn't come on.
Thanks.
Is this normal ?
What does it say in your owner's manual?
That is a Honda, so it means it car is not ready to race yet, take it easy.
I had that on my 2004 scion XB "Box Car", just a low temp light as well. Once it got up to temperature, it was ready to give you all 102HP!
From a 5 second google search -
Two common lights you can see in your HR-V are the high and low temperature indicators. Both look like a thermometer floating in fluid. When it's red, the engine coolant temperature is too high. When it's blue, it means the coolant temperature in your Honda HR-V is low.
If the light is blue, let your vehicle idle until the engine warms up and the symbol disappears.
I would check my owner's manual to make sure, but it sounds like the usual start up light letting you know the coolant (and by extension, the engine) hasn't warmed up to operating temperature yet. My Mazda also does this when I start it up. Once the engine warms up, it goes away.
Again, check your owner's manual to be certain.
