| 2010 Nissan Sentra CVT problems maybe | 15Relevance | 6 years ago | joshuap84 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I have a 2010 nissan sentra with 119k miles. The other day my car lost power while driving down the highway and would only get up to 30 or 40 mph and start jerking really bad.....I had it towed to the dealership as my warranty on the transmission just expired back in March, hoping they would help with the cost if the problem was my CVT tranny. I have been smelling a burning smell coming threw my HVAC system a few weeks before this happened and again about a year ago. I have done all the recommended maintenance on the car including changing out the CVT fluid twice since I have owned the car. I have taken as good of care of this car as I possibly can. The dealership wants to sell me a new CVT transmission and also change my plugs and coils for a whopping 5k. I did replace the plugs at 100k miles but not the coils. My question to you is would it be wise to replace the transmission and hope to get another 100k miles out of the car or to cut my losses and try to sell the car as is and hope to get maybe $2,000. I would hate to replace the transmission and have more problems with the car in the future including the transmission again. FYI nissan dealer is not getting the work.....I am going to a local transmission shop if I due decide to replace the tranny and I will never buy another Nissan again even tho I loved my car up until this happened and after what I have been reading about Nissans lately they are definitely not the cars they used to be thx Josh P | |||||
| 2014 Corolla creaking/CVT question | 15Relevance | 6 years ago | 2014Corolla | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hey there Scotty, I have a 2014 Corolla le eco with 60000 miles with CVT. I have two questions, the car has been great since I got it private sale over a year and a half ago ($10,500 with 30k miles) except for creaking up front. It only happens at slow speed and when only one of either tire goes over a bump. What do I need to grease? Also, as I mentioned, its a CVT. I've heard horror stories on jatco and then stories about how good aisen can be as long as you change the fluid which I have myself at 40k miles (thanks for the video on that). I've been conflicted on whether to keep it for the long haul or move it for a Corolla without a CVT but I can't really justify moving what has been a great car over these stories. What do you think? Thanks for the time. -Luke | |||||
| Answer to: AT-205 safe for CVT? | 15Relevance | 6 years ago | Ignatiosgr | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Here is where the CVT issue is to begin with a CVT transmission only has one drum with a pair of clutches for the forward and the rest is done by two metal plates that are chain and the way it switches gears is the second plates goes higher and higher away from the other if one of the plates starts getting scratches on it you will start noticing weird shifting hesitation to switch gears or even slipping the reason that happens is because you may have incorrect fluid, old dirty fluid or a lot of build up. If you want to CVT to last as long as possible change its oil every 20-30k miles if the oil comes out black just put it back and add a for sale sign on the car before it stops moving for good moral of story is if you want it to last regularly change the oil (if its not black) and add the correct fluid | |||||
| 2013 Nissan Maxima CVT and other fluid changes | 15Relevance | 6 years ago | Osi Baki | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hi Scotty, I know that you are not a fan of Nissan and their CVT transmission. My family has driven 6 different Nissan vehicles over the past 20 years and we have never had a problem with any of them; granted we have never reached 100K miles in any of them. My 2013 Maxima is currently at 96Kmiles, I bought it used at 44Kmile in 2017 and regularly maintain the car, change the oil (full synthetic oil), oil filter, in-cabin air filter, tire rotation every 5K-7.5K miles , I even took your advice and cleaned the MAF. I have recently been thinking of and watching videos of transmission oil change. As a DIY guy, I called the dealer about the transmission filter and I was told that they do not normally change the filter, that they only change the transmission oil. My question is, should I change the transmission filter, take down the pan and change the pan gasket. Or just remove the drain plug and change the CVT oil that I drain out; I want to do this every 30K miles. I also plan on changing the coolant. Are there any other fluids that you recommend that I change? My car uses NS-2 transmission fluid. I bought an Idemitsu NS-2 Transmission fluid. I found a safety data sheet that shows that their current NS-3 CVT fluid is manufactured by idemitsu. This is the filter | |||||

| Hi scotty. I hear you complain a lot about the engine dilution problems of some recent Hondas, and the CVT transmission issues of Jetco's in Nissans. I have also heard of the past automatic transmission issues of Honda in the past. But I don't hear you complain about the naturally aspirated engines, paired with a manual transmission as much. Nor have I heard you say that a naturally aspirated engine from Toyota will last longer than a NA engine of Honda or Nissan. I've heard you say Honda makes the best engines, but are you referring to performance or just ... | |||||
