I have a 2010 nissan sentra with 119k miles. The other day my car lost power while driving down the highway and would only get up to 30 or 40 mph and start jerking really bad.....I had it towed to the dealership as my warranty on the transmission just expired back in March, hoping they would help with the cost if the problem was my cvt tranny. I have been smelling a burning smell coming threw my HVAC system a few weeks before this happened and again about a year ago. I have done all the recommended maintenance on the car including changing out the cvt fluid twice since I have owned the car. I have taken as good of care of this car as I possibly can. The dealership wants to sell me a new cvt transmission and also change my plugs and coils for a whopping 5k. I did replace the plugs at 100k miles but not the coils.
My question to you is would it be wise to replace the transmission and hope to get another 100k miles out of the car or to cut my losses and try to sell the car as is and hope to get maybe $2,000. I would hate to replace the transmission and have more problems with the car in the future including the transmission again.
FYI nissan dealer is not getting the work.....I am going to a local transmission shop if I due decide to replace the tranny and I will never buy another Nissan again even tho I loved my car up until this happened and after what I have been reading about Nissans lately they are definitely not the cars they used to be
thx

Do you happen to know the codes stored as to why they want to replace the cvt? I am just curious as to why and the reasoning for the coils needing to be replaced? They are not a maintenance item so unless they are bad they shouldn’t need replacing. One thing those year sentras are common for that could cause a reduced power condition and possibly misfire would be the intake boot between throttle body and the air ox which has been misdiagnosed as transmission or coil problems
Yes. Oddly, I was able to find that cracked boot on my 2007. It caused a lot of stalling and really smelly exhaust.
yes that was very good advice first have a very good Nissan mechanic check it to make sure there's no throttle problem or anything like that which could make the CVT transmission get weird but knowing those things the transmission is probably shot and so just cut your losses and buy a Toyota or Honda
