| Newly purchased used car - mechanic claims "engine is bad" | 17Relevance | 2 years ago | zzotto21 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| ... SE with 68,000 miles on it. It has the 2.5L 4-Cyl DOHC 16V w/ Dual VVT-i engine. Toyota service records show consistent oil changes at around 5,000 miles or less, except for 2 lapses, wherein the oil was changed at 9 months. Most miles between changes was 5,000 or less, except on two occaisions that indicate there was about 9,000 miles between changes. I have a blue driver code reader (Scotty recommended!) and a few days after they bought it, I scanned the car with the blue driver and no codes. All good - no codes. Good service records. They decided to t ... | |||||

| ... and it seems to run smoothly. I didn't see it getting stuck anywhere. I decided to check the passenger side motor and I didn't notice anything getting stuck either. They both only move after the Auto sign goes away though. Neither side moves before. I think that's cause the computer can't recognize an airflow movement until I hit the fan button but as soon as I do it works. This is the OEM part number: 87106-07120. That's for the driver-side motor I replaced. Does anyone think it's for the passenger side by chance still? I was looking around online and was ... | |||||
| Answer to: Does The BlueDriver OBD2 Diagnostic Scan Tool hold up in 2021? | 17Relevance | 5 years ago | Mod_Man | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| If you are looking for a basic scanner, blue driver works well. But if you need live data or more advanced features, you'll need to look elsewhere. I would look at what blue driver does vs. what you need to do vs. what an Autel scan tool can do. And then decide which works best. | |||||
| "Identical" trans fluid, different colors | 16Relevance | 3 years ago | mtymk076 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hi Scotty, I recently did an automatic transmission drain and refill in my wife's 2014 Mazda CX5 GT using Aisin ATF-MFZ. I bought 4 quarts, and used ~3.5L. Three of the bottles were red in fluid color and one was blue. I checked the bottles and they were word for word identical and just figured that the company sold the ATF in both red and blue color and I was sent one of the blue ones by chance, but now I'm second guessing myself. Should I drain and refill again? Or is my transmission OK? Thanks, Mike | |||||

I am also concerned about u1059 (transmission position data invalid)It shifts perfect so I am not sure if I need to worry about that. Here is the entire list of codes below. If anyone notices anything important about any of this stuff please let me know. This is my work truck and I want to keep it working as long and cheaply as possible. I am planning a 1200 mile round trip soon. Thanks Scotty! And thanks anyone else ...

| Some of the smaller scanners like blue driver don’t show airbag issues. Example the passenger presence system in mine the sensor is bad, I have one to replace it, but my smaller AP200 autel never showed a problem. I bought the Autel MK808 and it goes farther and reports the problem. I would have an automotive shop or parts place with a better scanner check it. blue driver is a good system for DYI peeps but it does have limitations. Also run your VIN on the national recall search. You might have an airbag thats been recalled in that Takata mess. | |||||

| Generally, a catalytic converter problem will trip a P0420 code. P0420 usually means a problem with either the 02 sensor or the catalytic converter. If you don't have a P0420, you shouldn't have a problem with the cat or the 02 sensor. I'm not familiar with the FIXD app (unlike blue driver and MX Plus, which I am familiar with. I'm assuming that there's enhanced diagnostics/mode6/live data modes). I don't know if or what modes you've run, but run them multiple times, to ensure that the readings are at least consistent. NOW, it may be that your convert ... | |||||
| Low Coolant | 16Relevance | 4 years ago | NickWantsAToyota | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hey Scotty, Every now and then I check my coolant level in the reservoir tank. It keeps going down. I’ve pressure tested it and it held at 20psi for so long. I use that exhaust leak test test (blue liquid kit) and it stayed blue. I don’t see any noticeable leaks. What else can I do or is this normal to expel excess coolant? I’m going to try the blue liquid one more time but let the car run for an hour or so and see. I want to make sure the head gasket is good or bad because my extended warranty is almost up. Thanks | |||||

| If it was blue I’d say you have a better chance of being ok doing nothing. Since Honda/Acura usually use the blue. But since it is yellow, I recommend at least draining the reservoir and filling it up with the Asian blue coolant for Honda. Often times, in manuals, it will say if you are in a bind, you can use water or almost any coolant. But make sure to drain and fill it ASAP. TBH, I don’t think you need to drain and flush, unless it was a totally incompatible coolant. (Super Tech seems universal, but you’d have to compare the labels of Super Tech am ... | |||||

All I had to do was some simple troubleshooting on the unit itself, they verified it was 'defective', issued a credit to Amazon (the pos) and it was replace in less than week including shipping.
