Hello, community.
I'm looking for a commute car. I found the 2012 Honda accord(LX, sedan), 71K mi at a Facebook Marketplace in TX.
It looks like having a clean & blue title(No recall and damage history, 2-owner) and The seller asks for a firm and no-haggle price for 8 Grand. Is it worth buying it?
(The vehicle has some scratches and hail damages all over but, not severely bad in appearance.)
I'm a first used car buyer through a private party, especially in Facebook, Market place.
I will use a checklist from ChrisFix, and the basic scan tool, "Blue Driver" for the test drive and inspection.
What else should I have to consider to buy 71K miles vehicle? (afterward maintenance and title etc) I would appreciate all your comments and advice. Thank you.
In addition to all the above, look at the FAQ section of this website. You’ll find excellent articles & sound advice on buying your first car.
Thank you.
No haggle really? For a 7 year old base model Accord? 8k is too much for a salvage title* Accord. Clean title in excellent shape maybe $6k would be reasonable, but if its salvage:
A) don't even look at it
B) Like our Used Car Buying Guide outlines, try to pay about 40% less than the clean title price, around $3500.
Or, some members would argue that its worth scrap value.
I would look for a clean title one as he definitely won't through half the asking price off.
You would NEED to have a mechanic check it out if you intend on buying it
*Of course this is assuming its a salvage title, you said "blue title" which means salvage in most states but you also said clean&blue, can you specify?
Texas has this thing where blue titles are clean titles but apparently they can also be total loss etc. and its too overpriced anyways I'd pass
Thank you. I put the link on below other comment.
I would pass on.
Does it have a Salvage title?
He says its a blue title, which according to google search engine results means its a salvage title
https://www.google.com/search?q=blue+title&rlz=1CAPPDO_enUS861&oq=blue+title&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i59l2j0i271j69i60l2j69i61l2.4321j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
He also says clean.
Here is what I found online
https://www.autolist.com/guides/what-is-a-blue-title
This made me even more confused, he either has a salvage title, or a clear title that "An insurance company might sell total loss cars if they qualify as such. They can then reassign the title to the person who buys the car."
Update, I just saw he is in TX which means its a clean title but with different scenarious, can you check it out idk what to make of it.
Thanks all the comments. This is what it is
