Scotty, my name is Chris Robinson. I live in a small town about 1 hours drive from Bowling Green, KY. I have been following your channel and get enjoyment on the many topics that you discuss. I am 50 years old and am looking at buying a new sports car. Have never had a sports car in my life so I guess this is my mid life crisis car. I have been looking at either a new Toyota Supra or new Corvette. I have been driving Toyota's for about 20 years now and I like them but I am torn on which vehicle you think is best. I know about how reliable Toyota's are since I currently have a 2010 Camery with 162000 miles with no problems. This past December I bought a 2021 Toyota Rav4 XLE AWD and really do love it. I am not only thinking about which car would be better but also would like to get one that would have a good resale value if I decided to sell it. I have gone online and built the cars that I want with the options I want on them. The Toyota is much cheaper and has few options available. The Corvette is much more expensive and has a lot more options. The price for each vehicle that I have built are as follows: Toyota Supra $55,000, Corvette $96,512, both these prices included tax, title, and license. I would appreciate your incite into this manner.
Clarification: How many years and miles do you need it to last you?
@mod_man territory
Why not split the difference (in price) and get a used Lexus LC500 - more rare (and presumably more reliable) than both of those vehicles?
That toyota is really a BMW. I am not a fan of either one. I would say the toyota is probably the better pick of the two.
Get a Mazda Miata if you want a new reliable sport car. If you also consider used, get a Honda S2000.
I wont recommend toyota supra because it is a bmw z4 and muscle cars both ford and chev those are notorious for breaking down and endless money pits. C8 corvette is the prime example of engine blowing up or electronic failure.
If you want good reliable sports I say get lexus rcf or Honda civic type r (only comes in manual ) or si (comes in both manual and automatic) or if you want luxury and sports honda accord is also good option
But other than that it really depends on you, your style , your pocket and how long your gonna keep it.
The Supra is not going to be what you want it to be. It is just a BMW Z roadster with a Toyota label.
As for the Corvette, they are extremely overpriced for what you get and have had constant problems since they came out.
If you want to buy a sports car that you can enjoy and not spend a ton of money on, I would suggest the following:
1. 2013 - 2014 Mustang GT500
2. 2006 - 2009 Mustang GT500
3. 2002 - 2004 Corvette Z06
4. Any year Dodge Challenger Hellcat
Any of those will give you a ton of fun driving for a lot less than a new Corvette. If you want to get into a sports car, you have to realize you are trading reliability for speed and power.
My wife has an ‘09, C6 Z06, LS7, with a Corsa exhaust, Since she bought it in ‘10, with 10K on it, it’s cost very little in repairs. She initially spent a little on mods, filling all the “orifices” in with custom stainless grate, hardwired it for a Nano I gifted her, years ago. I stitched on a nice leather steering wheel cover to match the leather racing flag console cover she’d added.The new ones are pricey but their paddle shifters,and like me, she’s lifetime manual driver. So she plans to drive it till she ultimately “checks out” and then the oldest Grand gets it. Today, you can pick up a nice C6 for 20, 30K. A fun drive, for sure.
