Hey, 

I've always had old cars. So far I've had a 67 Mustang and an 84 nissan 300zx. This is my first "modern(ish)" car and my first automatic transmission. I wanted a 4runner for 4wheeling in the pacific northwest and for something more reliable while my old cars are giving me attitude. The 02 4runner has 250k miles and still runs like a dream except sometimes while shifting from 3rd to 4th gear it hesitates, then shifts hard sending a jolt through the driveline. No Engine codes otherwise shifts nice and smooth through other gears and most of the time into 4th gear. Transmission fluid is still red and doesn't smell burnt. Should I be concerned? I'd like to take this out in the woods this summer and the last thing I want is to be stranded and have to hike out or worse.
