128K, had a few fluid changes using GM Quadrasteer fluid. It chatters in reverse when turning and want to know if there's anything I (mechanic) can do before having to dissemble it (not me, LOL). An old time GM tech said to put a qt. of diesel fuel in it and run it in figure 8's in an open area. Not sure if that would work or maybe even do more harm than good. It's a complicated Dana diff. to work on and has the 4WS components attached to it. Any help / advice would be greatly appreciated.
Did they put in the small bottle of friction modifier? The gear oil bottle may say it's in there (don't trust how much is in each bottle), so I've always added the 4oz bottle and then drive to a nearby parking lot and do several circles in each direction and several figure 8's and never any chatter.
The Quadrasteer fluid is supposed to be all you need, it was the only thing that was ever used in this truck. I think the clutch pack is stuck from infrequent use. I'm trying to free it.
