My 2002 Honda Accord LX, 3.0L V6 with 242K miles on it was acting real funny today.
I don't know if this is related but last week the check engine light came on for a bit while I was driving (this also turned off the Traction Control system) but it did go back off and it hasn't come back on since.
This morning when I started the car, it started just like normal and didn't seem to have any issues. After driving for a while, I stopped and turned the car off. I went to start it after about 15 minutes and the car started, but after a couple seconds it sputtered and the car died. I tried starting it a couple more times, and it did the same thing. I even gave it a little gas the last time to see if that would keep it running but it made it sputter out worse. While this was happening, I was getting any new lights on the dash. I let it sit for about an hour before trying to start it again and that time it did start fine. It ran fine on my way home.
I checked the oil level and it was between the lines, so at this point I'm thinking its an issue with the fuel, and I'm guessing it was probably getting too much fuel and it was flooding the engine out at startup.
Am I on the right track? If so what could cause the car to get too much fuel, and if not, what else could be the problem? Just hoping for an answer since my friend whos a mechanic won't be able to get out to my house for several days. Thanks! 🙂
well I would definitely need the trouble code for the check engine light a billion different things can do that I need some data to make an educated guess
Shucks, I can't find the scanner I thought I had. Thanks for your time to take a look. I'll wait until my friend can come out and take a look, and make sure another scantool is on my list of things to buy haha
I also noticed something else. I made a minor typo above in my original question but it changed very much what I was saying. I said it was getting new lights on the dash, when I meant to say it wasn't getting any new lights. Sorry about that, thats my bad.
I don’t know if it is related. Just sharing similar stories for. For my 1999 Accord, I had trouble starting it in two separate occasions.
One timed, it turned out to be something on the fuel pump assembly. It was to expensive to change the actual problem, so they just swapped out the fuel pump assembly.
The other time, it was a relay underneath the steering wheel.
Good luck. Let us know how it goes.
I have heard of fuel pump relays on the drivers side under the dash causing pretty close to that same concern
