My suburban is losing oil. Not burning it,( no burning oil smell off the manifold or out the tailpipe) can't find any leaks on the ground after a long run and sitting overnight, can't find any major leaks around gaskets, but losing about a half quart every 1000 miles. Ideas?
You sure it's not burning it? Have you replaced the PCV valve? Check the engine for leaks. Degrease the engine and look for trails of oil from valve covers, etc.
If it loose the coolant and it does not drip it on the ground, it should burn it. Simple physics!
Check your head gasket situation with the kit that Scotty recommends.
I have to agree with having great personnel experience on the subject with the gentlemen above. And if your only losing half a qt every 1000 miles, your statistically doing far better than the cars peers.
