05 Corolla tach and temp gauge

Hi Scotty I love your videos! I am also a Corolla enthusiast! My 05 Corolla has started this new trick where the tach jumps from zero to max RPM when I crank it for a few times and the temperature gauge doesn’t work. Car runs and drives fine however. I think I am up-to-date on all recalls. Any ideas other than ECU? Throttle pos sensor? Crank sensor? Cam sensor?

thanks!

Check the live data on an OBD-2 scanner. If that data is accurate it is either the wiring to the dash, or the dash itself. If it’s not accurate and is “0” on the scanner, it’s the computer, wiring to the sensor, or the sensor.

when they go wagging like that generally I find it's the dash unit starting to go out and it runs okay you could of course ignore it I have many customers with Toyotas where various sections of the dash no longer work but the cars are on fine
