Hi guys. Mechanics said they can't do a fluid change on the transmission on the '05 matrix because it has 210,000 mi on it. They said it's starting to turn a little brown. There's no real shifting problems that I can tell most of the time but sometimes it does seem to downshift a little hard but that's not very common. Most the time it's extremely smooth. Anything I can do to be prepared is helpful thank you

Expecting an additive to extend transmission life by 200K miles is - not reasonable.
Any additive is a temporary bandaid at best that may not work at all. If that transmission has not been maintained properly for the last 17 years and 210K miles and friction surfaces are worn there really is nothing that will materially extend its life.
Sorry, our crystal balls are all broken. But odds are that it will have a very long service life. Some folks in your situation would drain a quart of the old trans fluid and put in a quart of new to refresh the additives without upsetting what's working well.
What if you drain a quart and add a quart of some type of additive?
I wouldn't add any additive unless there was a major problem like excessive slipping - stuff like the Lucas additive are band-aids to get a few more months out of a worn-out trans. In other words, what Chuck said.

No. Nothing can go forever even with good maintenance.

400,000 on a transmission. I would sit front row to see that thare is no way in hell that that’s gonna happen.. your best bet is to buy a new tranny and dish out 5- 10 grand.
