I found this 06 civic coupe manual with 2.1k miles for $3.5k. I’m a college student and I need a car to last me at least next 4 years. With the amount of mileage is it even worth considering? If so what are some things to look for when checking it out?

Hi MikeD20

I have owned a Honda Civic and it was a great car until it got rear ended on the freeway and was totaled! Anyway, when I checked the web, I found at carcomplaints.com that the 2006-2009 Honda Civics suffered from problems with the engine block cracking and all coolant being lost necessitating the need for an engine replacement. Honda extended the warranty on these engines to 10 years but since it was a faulty design, it may be worth determining whether or not the Honda you are looking at has had this work done. The other problems with this car were relatively minor in comparison. So if this issue has already been addressed, it might turn out to be a good car. Be sure to have a good mechanic do a pre-purchase inspection if you are not mechanically inclined. Good luck!

Pay an honest mechanic to check this car out first, before you buy it. It’s a manual, so it may still have some life left, although the mechanic will have to check if the engine is still healthy or already worn out.

If it all checks out, I’d offer them $1500-$2000 and nothing more. It’s a high mileage,  15 yr old civic. It may still last a while, but it’s worth very little.

Its the perfect cheap reliable car for a college student.
