Hi Scotty,
I have a 07 Corolla with 229k miles and an automatic transmission. A couple of weeks ago it decided to suddenly make a bunch of crunching noises and then lost all compression in cylinder 4 with a constant misfire code on 4. I know the engine is probably toast, but i was thinking that for fun i would try to rebuild it.
My question is, how do you check for an unrepairable block or head due to micro cracks or other defects? Do you always send it to a machine shop for reconditioning? Or is there something I can do in my home workshop?
Well truthfully with that mileage I don't advise rebuilding them there are so many Toyota Corolla engines out there in junkyard some cars that were wrecked and they last so long I would just install a used engine myself
