I'm looking at buying a 2008 toyota avalon. It has one owner but has 239k miles one it. The seller states it has a new gas tank and straps and runs, drives and shifts good. Also noting there is no check engine light. Although the seller doesn't say the engine, I think its the 3.5L V6. I have a friend that has a 05 avalon with the same engine with 280k miles. I was wondering how long these 3.5 engines can last. Is 239k too many miles? Should I run away? Their asking 3,500 for the car and everything works. (The car is for my dad and he drives very slow and easy. Then again he is 65 lol.)
Those cars can last a really long time. The combination of 3.5 liter V6 + 6 speed AT of Toyota is literally indestructible. With that being said, they should be taken care of (oil change, coolant change,...). Make sure that it has been taken care of and as always, have your mechanic check the car. Also, check the power streering system, they have a tendency to fail on these cars. Here is a video from Scotty on these cars:
