Hey Scotty, I have a p2402 code on my 09 Mazda 3 2.0l can you help me fix it?(where to start) this code popped several months ago but went away and hasn't returned until now..... Right when I need to smog check my car 😔
What's the relay called? Is it the fuel pump? Like obviously I know it's not the horn lol
@onilink
It is not the relay for the fuel pump. The fuel pump relay controls the fuel pump, not the EVAP pump. I looked through a fuse diagram for your car and did not find a specific fuse or relay for your EVAP pump. Take a look at all the fuses regarding the fuel system and check if they're good. Most likely replacing the actual leak detection pump would be best. I would think the relay is implemented in the unit itself since there is no relay for it in the fuse boxes.

Unfortunately that's what I thought because I couldn't find anything that was specifically for the evap system when I was looking at it...... Thank you for looking into it for me
Most likely the evap leak pump just needs to be replaced. You can try to change the relay for it first though. Swap it for a different relay in another system in your car that you don't need all the time (perhaps fog lights or something). See if the code goes away with the swapped relay and if it does, then just replace the relay.
Hi there! The code you scanned means that the EVAP pump control circuit is high. This means that there is some mechanical or electrical issue with the pump itself. First try to check the fuse box and see if the fuse just went out for the pump. If the fuse is fine, then most likely the pump itself is bad and needs to be replaced. Now you did mention that this issue went away and came back a few months later. Sometimes when you don't properly tighten your gas cap, it tends to throw codes relating to the EVAP system. In any case, check out the fuse, the pump, and the electrical connections.
@razmigb
Awesome, I'll try that stuff out
Well it turns out I bought the part but before I was going to install it the problem fixed itself, what I think happened was the evap system for flooded from overfilling the tank and the fuel finally evaporated and works just fine again....
Update: passed smog, thanks for all the help.
