Hey Scotty - my wife's 2011 jetta s has 185k miles on it (100+ when we started dating). I'm confident the trans fluid has never been changed. On one of your youtubes vids, you basically said, if it has that many miles on it and you never changed the trans fluid, then don't <please don't use foul language. -mod> with it and hope for the best. Problem now is it's leaking at the seam and probably needs a new pan gasket.
Question: is it better to deal with the leak rather than doing the fluid, filter and gasket change at this point? Also, you mentioned Lucas is good for American cars; how about European? I'm scared to add anything not OE to a VW. Any suggestions from anyone are much appreciated! Thanks
Too late. If you want to fix the leak only, drain the fluid, keep it and put it back in after reinstalling the pan with a new gasket. If the fluid and filter weren't changed on a regular basis (around 50,000 miles) nothing made by Lucas or anybody else is going to help, except a new transmission.
Thanks Doc! 👍
If that's a conventional auto (Aisin TF-60SN), and it shifts smooth, it's probably still safe.
There's still some risk, but at 185k miles it's probably near the end of it's life anyway.
👍👍 Thank you!
