I am putting back together a 1965 Mustang that was taken apart decades ago. My question is about the transmission. It is a C4 automatic that has been sitting on a cart in an enclosed garage for the last 30 years. What should be done to this transmission before it is put back in the car? I have received many suggestions rangingfrom a total rebuild to" nothing and see what happens", but none from a knowledgeable professional.
What's been sitting at long I would change the fluid and filter then just see what happens
While the trans is still out of the car you might want to consider renewing the seals. They're probably all dried out after sitting for 30 years.
Complete teardown...unless it was stored in a vacuum sealed container...it may have moisture damage. Lot of work to install and discover parts are seized.
