I installed a new flasher and a new turn signal switch to find the problem.the problem is that the passenger side turn does not work either in the front or back. It does get power because I turn my head light on and it works.but no brake light or turn.when turn the key on I noticed that there was a small amount of smoke coming out on the turn switch in the steering wheel when the blinker was on. I then turn the key off rt away to stop it.please help me I am lost on how to find the problem

The headlights are on a separate circuit with separate switches from the turn signals, so headlights working does not tell you much about the problem.

If you have inadvertently let the smoke out of the switch or wiring harness due to a short circuit you have to trace where the fault is and replace whatever is damaged. Use a multimeter and follow the wiring diagram in the shop manual. Obviously there are no computers or modules in a 1966 automobile so it is just basic electrical diagnosis. (If you don't have a shop manual for that car you need one and it should be readily available.)

How do I test for a short
