My Chevelle, which is nowhere near original (my dad used to drag race it) is having acceleration issues. I have a 350 with a EFI that replaced the carb. It was running fine until recently. Normal acceleration is okay, but when I floor it, I completely loose power, almost as if accelerating it cutting off the cars oxygen. I put premium gas in the car, but do not drive it often. Is there something I can easily check before taking it to the mechanic?

Since it has been switched to EFI, may as well check the usual suspects: fuel pump, injectors, fuel filter, etc. Not too hard to check and who knows...you may find your issue.
