1969 Camaro Oil Change

Hi Scotty,

I have been using Castrol GTX 10W40 & add Lucas TB-Zinc-Plus when I change the oil.  A friend recommended I use Shell Rotella T4 15W40 and not add the Lucus TB-Zinc-Plus. What would you recommend? We live in Florida and its a stock 350 small block with very little mileage on a rebuilt engine.  Mostly drive it to car shows.

I watch you all the time. Great show!

Thanks, John Mac

You could use something like Mobil 1 15W50 which has appropriate phosphorous and zinc levels for flat-tappet engines. Regular modern oils are not really a problem for stock non-performance engines that are well worn in, but for a low-mileage recent rebuild it's probably a good idea to stick with a high ZDDP oil. (I haven't done anything special for my own older vehicles but they're high mileage and long since broken in.)
