1982 Ford Thunderbird Motorcraft 2150 Carburetor Concerns.

Hello Scotty and Crew!

I'm currently getting my 1982 Ford Thunderbird Heritage with the 3.8L V6 and has an Automatic with Overdrive out of it's salt avoidance storage in the UP of Michigan. It belonged to my Great-Great Aunt and she was very particular about it's care. She upgraded to a Roadmaster in the 90s and the Thunderbird sat unused from 2009 until 2 years ago. It has the original Motorcraft 2150 Carburetor and I recently rebuilt it and it is pushing gas out of the vents (I've dubbed it a fountain) following the rebuild. It has under 60,000 miles and previously had a new fuel tank, lines, fuel pump, fuel and air filters installed. The Carburetor decided to give up the ghost last fall, I then parked it, and it has sat over the winter while I am in medical school classes. I previously ran it all last summer getting great mileage. That was until the car just quit getting fuel to the engine, all engine electrical works, and I found the carburetor was gummed up and clogged and upon pulling it apart I can't fathom how it was running at all and I don't think the secondary worked had at all, probably why my mileage was 25+ in the city. I believe it is the float/needle valve causing the issue as everything else is properly functioning but the engine isn't getting fuel but runs on ether when sprayed down throat. I have fuel through the new filter (I've used multiple new stock style screw in filters and they all allow gas flow) when I have the filter detached from the carb and it is pumped, but then when the line is attached and carb floods and pushes out the vents and the car starves for fuel. I am unsatisfied with the parts store rebuild kit needle valve seal and the stock needle valve is no longer an option. I'm a huge fan of doing things right the first time and would like to know if you've got any advice for full carburetor replacement, preferably quality, better yet if it's made in the USA and comes with a warranty. I'm in medical school and tinkering on old Fords is my stress relief but this Thunderbird is WAY more complicated than my Model A. My Great Aunt turns 96 this year and I'd like to surprise her with a fall color tour trip in it of 300 miles, so I want to get this sorted. Many thanks in advance!

Ok this happened to me.

I changed all old rubber hoses that where connected to any part of fuel lines.  Even the ones at gast tank.  The culprit was microscopic holes in rubber.  It's like drinking from a straw with holes in it.  Hope this helps.

You might want to look into something like this:

I have a vehicle with a 2100 carb (earlier version of the 2150) that's going to need some attention and am looking around at options myself.
