Hey Scotty, Ive got a 1985 Chevy S10 4x4 with a 2.8 V6 and a 4 speed manual. The owner I bought it from never got to drive the truck hardly ever and he doesn't know if the 4x4 works. I've heard its a vacuum operated system but other than that I have no idea what I'm doing. How can I test if the 4x4 works and if it doesn't work then what can I do to fix it. Also what are some common symptoms/parts that would cause it to fail. I dont want to break something on the truck because its very solid and mostly rust free.

if you want to learn a little bit about it my advice is buy a nice manual like a Hanes manual that's pretty self-explanatory to show you how the systems work and how to test them
Well the truck did come with 3 large Chilton, Hanes and a shop manuals So I will be sure to read them.
