Hey Scotty.. love your shows..hope you are well! Bought 86 Corvette museum kept only 3800 miles. My cheap GM ob1 device shows code 51. Prior my purchase it had an updated ecu. It starts right up..runs great…until around 170deg rough..check engine flashing..at 180ish will stall out. Have replaced distributor cap rotor…ignition control module in distributor..new rotor button.. hired a “Goober playing Guessorama” $$$. How CAN I get complete verification the main ecu itself is truly the cause? Have also watched videos about how fuel injectors can deteriorate..and cause stalls.. EGR.. Idle cotrol valve Fuel, pump etc etc? Any suggestions very much appreciated!
Well here's the problem that's only OBD1. And you're not getting hardly any information. You really would have to start by finding an older mechanic who has at least a snap-on brick scanner so he could get some data all that much. But you need more data. And I couldn't hazard a guess without actually seeing the thing myself. There's so many things that can go wrong on something that's sat that long. But normally it has to do with the fuel system when they set that long. Things like fuel pump, fuel filter and carburetor
