My 1988 c1500 is getting a lot of air in the gas tank and it’s not reading the gas level correctly, just put in a new pump and gas tank a month ago.

getting a lot of air in the gas tank

what is there supposed to be above the fuel?

What you mean?

what do YOU mean?

Every time I open my gas cap there’s a lot of air climbing out of my fuel tank

you mean air escapes like when you open a soda bottle?... or does air get sucked in, like when you open a jam jar?
Doesn't matter ... it means the venting isn't working properly.
But that shouldn't affect the gauge reading. The fuel level sender isn't working.
It probably needs the tank dropped and the system overhauled, which is a whole other can of worms for a 1988 model.
If I were you I would live with it and just count the miles .... unless the odometer doesn't work either. Carry a jerry can.

Yes sir the air escapes like that like a soda can but it’s a lot
