Hello Scotty and the rest of the community!
I inherited a 1990 Ford LTD Crown Victoria wagon from my grandfather when he passed. It has roughly 250k miles on it. The car smells like gas while its running, and occasionally stalls when I slow down. Also, it pulses in idle and has failed emissions. Any suggestions on the simplest places to start?
Also, I would love to know about some common complications with this model of car.

Given that the car is 33 years old you need to check all the fuel system components, seals, and gaskets for leakage. Also check simple stuff like spark plugs, ignition wires, distributor, filters. You might also check for OBD1 codes.
At that age and mileage the car is most likely going to need some serious TLC.
