Hi I have a 1994 Mustang GT with 166,000 miles, and manual transmission. It was originally my uncles car but it’s been sitting for 15 years. I decided to put a battery in it but I didn’t crank it at all just turned the dash lights on and I immediately noticed the battery started swelling, seeping acid, and I could clearly notice a burning smell. The battery is a perfectly good interstate battery that’s only a year old. What could it be?

You may have issues with the cables connecting to the battery poles. Make sure the insulation on those are good. They might be touching other spots on the car and make a short.
