1995 Toyota Corolla 1.8L DX model 150,000 miles
Car was idling rough so I changed the spark plugs with Bosch Iridium Spark Plugs. Still idled rough so I put in a new air filter (stp SA5466). The car still shakes to beat the dickens so I checked the new spark plugs and they've blackened. I've run out of sanity and need help. What should I try next?
If they are blackened your engine may be burning oil. For the shaking I would start by not using Bosch plugs in that car. Believe it or not engines are picky about the brands. In that engine I would only use Denso or NGK.
Replaced again last night with Denso Iridium IK16TT 4701 with a gap space of .032 inches, and drove a good 50 miles on it. Problem still persists, thinking now that I may be having issues with the map or egr. Any thoughts on this?
Thank you!
It very well could be, especially the ERG if it is burning oil. Does it have any codes? Are you able to look at the live data?
Update. Removed and cleaned the egr valve It's extremely rusty, but holds suction and appears to still be working. Also cleaned the vacuum regulator while I was at it. No changes again, any suggestions on where I could find info on checking the MAP, I keep getting results for MAF (which I obviously don't have on this lol).
Thank you!
Hard to say without being able to look at it.
Start with changing the EGR valve.
