I’m looking at a 95 BMW M. It has 150000miles and he’s asking for $7500 it looks in good shape overall. Is it a good deal? Is there anything to watch out for?

thank you!

They say BMW, stands for “Broken Money Waster”.

Even for M model $7500 is way too much for a 1995 model.

If your looking for a fun weekend toy, get a Mazda Miata. If want a dependable daily driver get Corolla or Civic. Look up “Hoovies Garage” on YouTube why buying off warranty BMWs are not a good idea

If it was like an e30 then it would be more reliable but it too much money and miles for the e36. Do you like the Miata? If so I would go for a miata.

or a late 90's Nissan Maxima those were the good years of Nissan they are screaming cars especially with the manuelt transmission

It’s one of those cars, … you buy it cheap, say, $7500, … and than you spend $7500 first year just to fix everything important! Than, … and only than, great performance for a brief period of time, … and a spectacular and expensive failure. Over and over. Never ending, …

Anyway, look out for rust through and trough, everywhere. Underpinning, … count on replacing tie rod ends, transmission mounts, sway bar end links, motor mounts, rear strut mounts, differential mounts, control arm bushings, trailing arm bushings, and a rubber flex disc for a driveshaft. Also, there is an issue of cooling - water pump bearings goes unexpectedly.

One thing though, these cars are easy to work on, so you save there if you are DIY type of a person. This will partially offset expensive parts that are difficult to source.

… but it’s a most spectacular driver when everything is up to snuff!

Best,

F.S.
