I have a 1996 oldsmobile Cutlass supreme sl. 3.1L auto transmission with 125,000 miles. It cranks but won't start. When the key is in the run position the fuel pump relay clicks rapidly. It also sounds like the fuel pump kicks on and off with the clicking of the relay. I replaced the relay with the same problem occurring. I replaced the fuel pump and the battery when I first got the car from my grandparents for free. They had problems in the past with it leaving people stranded until it finally just died and they parked it. I got the car running for a while but It will randomly have this problem, it will usually start after having sat for a few hours. Any help with this issue will be greatly appreciated.
Clicking = bad, the relay is not receiving a constant supply of voltage hence the click. With these older cars sometimes it's not the relay or the actual part themselves. Have you checked the connection between them? If the wires are exposed anywhere along the line it could cause a crank but no start issue. In the older camaros they've been known for this issue in the past. My bet be either there be a wiring issue, a connector issue since the relay is new.
