Hello Scotty,
I've watched you on You Tube for years, I can't count the number of times your videos helped me resolve countless problems... Thank you.
I can't get past this one:
1997 Toyota 4Runner 2.7l 195,000 miles
Started about 3 weeks ago, I noticed a very slight mis driving on the highway after warmed up, then nothing for a week.
Then, after warm started studdering when accelerating, but would come and go.
Then after warmed up starts studdering, and doesn't go away
Now studders from initial start.
The interesting thing though, is when put in neutral or park, engine runs smooth as silk, even when depressing the accelerator to a rpm range 2-3000.
What I've done:
Replaced spark plugs
Bought a coil, and swapped between both coils ~ no change.
Removed the throttle body, and thoroughly cleaned. I was surprised it was running; the port hole was completely clogged with carbon.
Cleaned the IAC, and tested under 12V that the cylinder door opened and closed on the different pins.
removed the entire fuel rail, and cleaned all the injectors with injector cleaner, via connecting to 12V battery and spraying carb cleaner through injector.
all injectors tested about the same in the 16.5 Ohm range.
I don't have a scan tool, so I don't know any codes, I've disconnected battery overnight to clear, and check engine light comes back.
Any hints for what to look at next would greatly be appreciated.
Thank you for the incredible service you offer for the working slobs that can't afford the shops.
Kind Regards,
J.
Plug wires? You didn't mention them.
@greg-graham
No, I haven't done them. I replaced them about 4 years ago ~ maybe 15K miles.
Go to autozone and use their scan tool to pull the codes
@ramon97
Last time I was there they had stopped that service because of Covid. I had asked once to use scanner, and they told me an employee had to perform the scan.
If none of the auto parts let you use the scan tool trying going to a shop and ask them to pull the code(s). I don’t think they’ll charge but ask beforehand
Replaced FPV Fuel Pressure Valve / Diaphram on Fuel rail. Ran perfect until warmed up, then studder mis-fire came back. ** Just a little more detail: Engine studders, but if excelerator is floored it seems to backfire through the air intake box.
