I have a 1997 ford explorer sport 4x4 2 door automatic. Im replacing the dipstick because it is leaking and when I was taking it out I found 2 tubes. 1 tube is short and about 10 in long and it goes into the transmission and the other tube is the long one that bolts onto the block. The long tube goes into the short one and the short one goes into the transmission. What is the short tube for and how do I seal it so it doesn't leak?

The one that goes into the transmission is to check transmission fluid. The one going into the block is to check engine oil. If it is leaking (engine dipstick), your PCV valve is probably not working and needs replacement. If the seal near the handle of the dipstick is worn or broken, you need a new dipstick.
