Hello everyone. I am buying my very first car as a college graduate and I have been doing a lot of research and hunting. Recently, I found this used 1997 Lexus ES300 that a well-reviewed Facebook Marketplace dealer is selling. It has a mileage of 280k and according to him, there is only rust on the rear wheel well. I am working on going for a test drive, but for $2200, is this car a good deal? I heard a lot of good things about old Toyotas/Lexuses even with high mileage, but I wanted some expert opinions on whether this is a good idea. Thank you for any kind of help!
Wow that's high mileage but they are very well made cars the price in this case is in material you want to see if it's in good shape so have a mechanic like me check it out before you buy
If you want it for daily driving, keep looking. I would not buy that car. It is a 25 years old car with almost 300k miles from a dealer.
Although a Lexus is a well-built car there is a LOT to go wrong on a 25-year-old luxury car. You would be much better off with something simpler as a first car like a Corolla or Civic, avoiding problem models that have been documented on this site and in Scotty's videos.
