I just bought a 1997 4Runner 2wd with 153,000 miles that was driven from california by the previous owner. The gentleman I bought it from had his mechanic look through it and said it looked great and has zero rust and the front end, tires, and possibly the head gasket . It's not 100% perfect but runs and drives well enough. The seller I am buying from said his mechanic reported that the T belt (not sure how he could tell, can you clarify how to be able to tell?), valve cover done (Which looks like a new part on the engine). Front end parts. Undercarriage in remarkable shape, it being from california and all.
My question is I am looking for a Toyota technician near me in BOSTON to go over it and let me know what I need to keep a look out for to be able to bring it to 100% if it isn't already. Do you know the best way to find one or do you have anyone you recommend? Since it was a such a great deal I had to do it seeing how I do not have a vehicle at the moment and I need an affordable SUV that I do not have to worry about!!
Thanks guys this is awesome that yall help people like this. A car is your second biggest investment besides buying a house and when you don't have a house its kinda a big deal to find the right one:)
Looking forward to your replies.
Pete
Just to clarify, are the front end, tires, and head gasket ok or are there possibly issues?
I was told they are ok!
Find a local mechanic to check it for you. Do not go to any Toyota dealers.
