1998 Lexus GS300 trunk indicator light won't turn off

Hello Scotty and community,

Whenever I borrow and drive my mom's 1998 Lexus GS300 automatic with ~193,000 miles, lately the trunk indicator light comes on right after I shift the gear knob from PARK to DRIVE or REVERSE. My mom and I checked if all brake lights functioned when we were at the Norms restaurant parking lot a few weeks ago, they all turn on an activate when the brake pedal is depressed. So I have no idea how to turn that annoying little orange light off without use of a fancy scan tool which I don't have yet. It looks like this: an orange lamp with the outline of the car with blinking symbols to the rear of the car. How do I turn off this indicator light? (Image borrowed from google)

Thanks in advance.

I do believe that isn’t a trunk indicator light but it tells you when you have a tailight bulb out. Could be a running light or brake light, even in the center light. And yes the bulb can still light and have a change in it’s resistance reading to trigger the warning light to come on. Also if there was a bulb out and someone put in a cheap led light or the wrong bulb that will cause it to.

I see, I guess I will have to check out all the bulbs in my spare time.

Best way is buy a new bulb and use an ohm meter see what it’s values are. Test your existing ones against it.
