Is Snap On MT2500 a good scan tool to upgrade to read OBD 1 & 2 cars?

Hi Scotty and community, 

I was wondering if the Snap on MT2500 is a good scan tool to upgrade to from my $50 basic Innova 5110 scanner. It seems like an older, but very versatile and modularly designed device (and costs more!), being able to feature and accept many different proprietary data cartridges for different cars, data keys, and different OBD cables to different cars for pre-OBDII standard. I probably need the Asian cartridges from 1989 to 1999.

I'm asking because I am wondering if this would be a good scanner to get so I can read data for my 1989 Nissan Sentra (122,211 miles) in the future, which has a possible OBD-1 port located in the fuse panel on the drivers side. I found out about the Snap On 2500 after buying an obd 1 adapter that I didn't know at the time was for this device.

I can't use my Innova 5110 since its OBD-II plug and I don't trust the Nissan OBD1 to OBD2 adapter cables being sold on Amazon or ebay for cheap ($10-$15) that are probably made from china. The Innova 5110 is just a basic scanner I got at Pepboys and I have to download an app that just tells me generic stuff after a scan and doesn't tell me any hidden stuff or live data. What do you (all) think? Do you recommend a different OBD scanner I should use to upgrade so it can read for both cars I own, 1989 Nissan Sentra and 1998 Honda Accord? thanks in advance and always grateful that my questions have appeared in the YouTube videos!

If you can get one cheap like 100-200 bucks the lab scope in it is very useful. I don’t think snap on supports them anymore though for software upgrades or manufacturer modules. Cheap lab scopes cost 150 bucks and don’t have anywhere near same functionality. If you want a decent scanner with service functions the Autel MK808 or MX808 seems be the best bang for the 400-500 investment. Innova has some nice nodels in same price range, even one with less service functions in the 250 range.
