2000 Honda Accord crank no start

I have a 2000 Honda Accord 4 cyln 2.3L lx automatic with roughly about 273,000+ miles on it. I got it from someone who was an acquaintance not to long ago and he told me he replaced the water pump and the timing belt due to it leaking. Drove the car for a few days and it started to overheat while I was driving on the freeway. idling was high with what seemed like not enough power to go faster as I pushed the gas pedal. once i noticed it was getting hot I pulled over and noticed the heater hose had busted. replaced that and the thermostat. still over heating. needle goes to the middle from the H as I'm driving but will go back up to the H as I'm idle. I have to put coolant almost everytime I drive it. I was on my way home a few days ago and came to the stop light and car just shut off completely. tried to restart it no luck. codes that came up were cylinder 1 and 3 were misfiring. I don't know if its a blown head gasket or why it cranks but wont start anymore. this has happened before and I have to let the car sit for a few hours and then it'll start up very rough like almost wants to stall but I'll give it gas and it'll stay on n eventually run normal. please if you have any advice that can help I'd love to hear from you. thanks

Didn't any of these issues show up during the pre-purchase inspection?

It's a high mileage 24-year-old car. Just about anything or any combination of things could be wrong with it. See the troubleshooting section of our FAQ to help track down the problem(s).

The automatic transmissions in those cars are weak so you can probably expect problems there as well. (At this age and mileage it has already exceeded its expected service life.)
