I have a 2011 Hyundai Sonata Limited with a mileage of 247,120 . It’s been hesitating for about a month but began SMOKING around radiator cap this morning & overheating . I couldn’t even make it 6.3 miles to my job. I’ve watched your videos a thousand times & learned how to do MOST things myself . But this on this one , I fear that I’m in DEEP TROUBLE . Any advice would help a lot !

Have you thought about a new radiator cap?

I bought a new one a few hours ago & all that changed was my ECO light is back on . I took another look & my fan isn’t working , but all the diagnostic says still is that I need an oxygen sensor .

If a new radiator cap doesn't help test for a blown head gasket. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007ZDRUI?ref=exp_scottykilmer_dp_vv_d

I’ll get on that now .
Thank you !

- Fan stopped working
- Car overheating

-  coolant leaking & smoke coming from under or around radiator cap .

-radiator cap was replaced

* Diagnostic says ( Replace oxygen sensor ) *

If the fan doesn't work you will have problems at lower speeds or idling but that need to be fixed. That car has a conventional thermostat. That's where I would look first. The overheating may have blown the head gasket which is an after affect of overheating. That would account for the smoke coming out of the radiator.

Overheating is the kiss of death for an asian car. You have already been living on borrowed time at 250K miles. Use caution if you attempt to change the thermostat your self. The engine should be cold as in overnight cold. Wear gloves and cover the cap while relieving the pressure. A facefull of hot coolant is no fun. The housing is plastic so be gentle when you break it loose. You need a experienced mechanic with a infrared temperature gauge to see where the concentrations of heat are.
