[Solved] 2000 Lincoln Continental Engine Issues

Hello!

Recently, I was driving my Lincoln down the highway, slowing down for a red light. When I hit about 25 mph, there was a loud bang and then the engine RPM dropped to around 400, and I had to floor the gas pedal to keep the car running. I managed to pull into a parking lot, and then the car stalled. I checked under the hood, but I could not find any obvious damage. I managed to get it running again, but it was misfiring badly and sounded like it was down 2 or 3 cylinders. I got it home, and then I pulled the spark plugs. There was oil on 3 of them and 1 of them was also covered in metal chunks. After I put the spark plugs back in, I restarted the engine, and there was lots of white smoke coming out of the exhaust.

My question is, did I blow the motor, and if I did, do you think the car is worth saving?

(The car is front-wheel drive, so the motor is not in line with the car, making working on it much more difficult than it would ordinarily be.)

Thank you!

Definitely sounds as if motor components shattered. Look for a used or fully reman motor if the car is in good condition. Would cost too much to rebuild

Thank you for the reply, I'll do that! The rest of the car is in very good condition.

Old lincolns are just going to be trouble. I'd say just get rid of the beater

Oil and Metal on spark plugs is never a good sign and defiantly sounds like it blew up. Unless the car is in near perfect condition i would not put the money into the car. The older Lincolns are not worth very much. For example, i just bought a 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII (same engine as your continental) with 58,000 miles for only $3,000. I would recommend just get what money you can out of the continental and put it towards another car.
