Hello Scotty!
I just got two cars for FREE 😆 (2001 5.3L V8 Suburban with 230 000 + miles and 1999 Lexus RX 300 with 130 000 + miles). My business partner was going to trash both cars, when I jumped in and said: "Give it to me and I will take care good of them". Both cars are not 100% but based on my first assessment, all they need is a little love and attention.
I am a DYI guy, and working on cars is a hobby that I enjoyed over the years. I've decided to take on the 2001 Suburban first, because it is in a worst shape (visually speaking). My plans for the Suburban is to use it over the weekends for small trips to sporting events, because the interior space will be great to carry all the equipments.
The truck has been sitting outside for a couple of years, and have not been driven for the last 6 months. Interior and paint took it pretty hard, but not a heavy lift to fix it. Yesterday, I did a first assessment and of course the battery was dead, so I had to jump it, and with no hesitation, the engine started right away (1st try) 🙂.
This is what it sounded like: Video.
I would like to address this noise first. Based on the video, what do you think it could be?
I did a little research (Google/Youtube) and my first guess would be that the noise is associated with build up sludge on push rods / rocker arms because of old oil.
Saturday, I will scan the car and get more details on it.
Thanks for your help!

it sounds like a money pit.
It could be... 😆 ...but hey, it did not cost a penny! 🙂
