I am trying desperately to keep a 2001 Chevy Tracker 6 cylinder 2.5 liter SUV going until I have money saved up for a new vehicle. I’ve been learning to work on my own vehicle to save money and I’m really enjoying it. That being said I’m still pouring money into it and it has a head gasket leak a bad one 😖 I just purchased a new alternator and I think the old one got oil from the leak on it and that’s why it’s not working as it should. I’m putting the new alternator in soon and so my question is, is there a way to somehow protect the alternator at least as a band aid fix from suffering the same fate? Thanks in advance for all your helpful videos and advice!

Yes
Change the head gasket!
