2001 CL500 Worth it?

Friend of mine wants to get rid of a 2001 CL500 he got from his grandmother that's just taking up space. Has only 29500 miles with a full service history, minor scratches (missing passenger mirror glass) etc. Put in a new battery and seems to run alright. He's willing to sell it to me for $1500.

Question 1: Is it worth taking on? I would primarily use it for the occasional trip up and down I-95 and taking it out once a week to keep it in good shape.

Question 2: Say it is worth taking on, what should I have a mechanic look at and change up (e.g., fluids etc.) before finalizing the purchase?

Thanks!

If that CL really only has 29500 miles, then $1500 is a bargain. I would only use it as a weekend/fun car - don’t put too many miles on it. Have your mechanic perform a full pre-purchase on it so you have a thorough report on what shape it’s in. If there’s nothing major wrong with it, that sounds like a really fun and smart way to get an older Mercedes-Benz!

With that low mileage and the price i say its a good gamble. The Germans did build that car with the autobahn in mind so they are great highway vehicles.

Just know down the road it might start having electrical issues but giving the low miles you shouldn't have that problem for a while.
