Do you think Hyundai should've pulled out of the United States during their earlier days with the Excel?
Yes.
That said, the North American car market is HUGE and if an automaker wants to truly succeed, they need marketshare here. Hence why the Japanese brands came...they knew this to be true.
The difference is the Japanese came with quality cars and have seen great success. Hyundai has come with garbage and a "good" warranty and has only seen success due to their price point.
Americans have adopted a "Wal-Mart" mentality. Cheapest is always best in their minds and they will justify that any way they can. If something breaks, it is still great because "Hey, I only paid $xx,xxx for it so it's still better than a Honda." Not a good mentality and one that we desperately need to break out of.
For them no, because Americans are easily fooled into buying junk and they make money off of it.
For us . . .
I appreciate having Hyundai and Kia around because it provides the competition to keep Toyota and Honda on their toes.
Also, It makes me appreciate Toyota and Honda more. Hyundai and Kia fill a niche in the market. And for many people, that may be a car for them.
Would I buy a Hyundai or Kia myself? Probably not.
It seems to me they are doing pretty well in the US. So no, I don’t think they should have pulled out.
If I were qualified to make decisions like that, I would be running a car company.
My own insignificant opinion is that I actually couldn't care less what Hyundai does. I don't own one, and don't plan to.
This!
If they pull out of the US the other car makers will just start building cars crappy, More than now. You need competition to keep everyone on there toes about how they build their cars. The less options we have the better for automakers because they can build whatever they want and we have too buy it because we need a car.
