I have a 2001 dodge ram v6 and when it has sat for more than 3 or 4 hours, when I start it it makes a very noticeable whistling sound. It continues when I drive and it is a lot worse when I am not accelerating. When I accelerate I can not really hear it. It only lasts for a couple of minutes and then it goes away, and it only does it after it has sat overnight or for multiple hours. What is causing the whistling and is it a big deal or can I just drive it and ignore it?

If it’s not what @mod_man advised, I think your truck has fallen in love with this song -

I would check for vacuum leaks. Check all the hoses, etc. and make sure you do not have a hole somewhere or something that has dry rotted due to age.
