Hey everyone, how is it going? I. New to the page. I been following for years, on YouTube and all. I am here because I have a 2001 ford focus zx3 automatic with 2.0l zetech dual overhead cam engine. Recently, I got a code p0320 Ignition/Distributor Engine Speed Input Circuit malfunction. Can anyone help me with this? Thank you!
Is it a permanent code? Have you cleared it and did it come back? Sometimes ignition system codes can happen from something as simple as driving through a deep puddle during a heavy rain. Can be a one time incident. Let us know.
Yes, I cleared it and it comes right back.
Ok, just checking, you’re going to need to look at the input speed sensor and your crank sensor. Check the plugs look for corrosion etc.... it can be a faulty ignition speed sensor, faulty crank sensor, ECM/PCM, the speed sensor is only 30 bucks so changing it isn’t to bad.
Changing one sensor seeing if it fixes the problem can be ok, especially if it is cheap. You don’t want to just start changing a multitude of parts blindly as that can actually cause it to get worse. A mechanic with the proper equipment can send test signals to the sensors and find out which one is actually bad. If you want to try and change the one yourself would recommend a small investment in using Alldata, it has pictures and diagrams etc to aid you.

Where is the input speed sensor and ignition speed sensor located?
I looked for that before I messaged you last time. Couldn’t find anything concrete between a regular focus and a zx3 that’s why I recommended you use alldata.com/diy , ignition input speed sensor and crank sensor it will have pictures and information to guide you. It’s been so long since I have worked on a focus off top my head I didn’t want to possibly tell you wrong on its location. The crank sensor will be down near the main crank pulley, and the speed sensor will likely be near where your ignition wires cluster together. You can go on advance auto or autozone and lookup the replacement sensors so you know what you are looking for.
I cleared it like 3 times.
Can anyone tell me, where is the input speed sensor and ignition speed sensor located?
one is in the vicinity of the crankshaft, and one on the camshaft.
