  • Hey Scotty, I have a 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer ES 2.0 L 4-cylinder engine, with about 163,000 miles on it and a 5-speed manual transmission. My car is jolting and dying on the road, even when I'm idling in neutral. It struggles to start back up, but eventually does. The spark plugs and wires have been replaced recently. Had a mechanic look at it and the problem didn't occur for him, and couldn't find anything wrong with it. Took it back drove it around for a week, then the problem happened again. It was hot outside and I was blasting the A/C at its max. I've done a lot of work on it and dont know if it's worth it anymore. What could be the issue, and should I get it fixed or should I look into another car?

A 19-year-old Lancer is certainly not worth spending a lot of money on. Did the mechanic check for codes and analyze live data to look for problems? The low hanging fruit would be obvious stuff like vacuum leaks, filters, spark plugs, or fuel pressure. One would hope the mechanic would check at least those things but you weren't specific on what diagnostics were performed.
